Following are some of the open access and free journal archives and journal titles, which are made available for use to enhance research and development.

Journal Archives:

  • Academic Journals provides access to full-text articles in the Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, Engineering, Arts & Education and Legal Studies

  • African Journals Online provides free online access to most of the journals published from Africa. Full text of articles will be sent to only those members, who are from non profit making organizations working in selected developing countries, including India.

  • Archive of African Journals expands free, online access to full text of articles of eleven social science and humanities journals published in Africa.

  • Bioline International is a not-for-profit electronic publishing service committed to providing open access to quality research journals published in developing countries including India. As of today it is giving free full text online access to 28 journals.

    BioMed Central provides free access to peer-reviewed research articles and subscription-based access to reviews, commentaries and other information services in all the areas of biology and medicine.

    Directory of Open Access Journals is a community-curated online directory that indexes and provides access to high quality, open access, peer-reviewed journals. DOAJ is independent. All funding is via donations, 22% of which comes from sponsors and 78% from members and publisher members. All DOAJ services are free of charge including being indexed in DOAJ. All data is freely available.

    Electronic Journals Library provides comprehensive list of e-journals accessible with cost and without cost in all fields.

    Emerald Open Access Journals Emerald Group's flourishing program of full open access journals.

    Health Journals: Free for Developing Economies provides list of journals offer free online access to developing economies, based on either programs such as HINARI, or on a HighWire-based program offering access to countries appearing in the World Bank's list of "low income economies," plus Djibouti. No need to sign up, the site automatically recognises from which country you are accessing.

    Highwire Press as they claim it is one among the second largest Science archives of full text articles on earth. Here it lists out titles of journals published by different publishers in science; many of them can be accessed online without any extra cost, if the libraries have print subscriptions.

    Internet Library of Early Journals is a digital library providing access to 18th and 19th century journals.

    OAJSE is an open access e-journal search portal.

    PubMed Central is a digital archive of life sciences journal literature, which can be dowloaded free of cost.

    ROAD: Directory of Open Access Scholarly Resources provides access to a subset of the ISSN Register comprising of bibliographic records which describe scholarly resources in Open Access which have been assigned an ISSN by the ISSN Network: journals, conference proceedings and academic repositories.

    Springer Open Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS) Springer's flourishing program of full open access journals.

    Taylor and Francis Open Access Journals Taylor & Francis Group's flourishing program of full open access journals.

Individual E-Journals:

Social Sciences:
  • Economic and Political Weekly provides free online access to full text of articles published in current and few preceding years volumes.

  • IAFOR Journal of the Social Sciences is an internationally reviewed and editorially independent interdisciplinary journal associated with IAFOR’s international conferences on the social sciences.

  • Journal of Social Sciences is a peer reviewed international journal that covers the fields of scientific knowledge and academic scholarship that study social groups and, more generally, human society. JSS is a quarterly publication also cover articles on extended fields of social science.

  • Labour File gives online access to full text of articles of few issues.

  • Little Magazine provides online access to full text of articles from May 2000. Even though articles covered on internet edition are less compared to print edition, but it is worth.

  • MedIND provides free full text articles published in select Indian Biomedical Journals indexed in IndMED or PubMed

  • MedKnow provides free access to 134 electronic editions of journals

  • Open Cultural Studies is a peer-reviewed, open access scholarly journal that explores the fields of Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts. It interprets culture in an inclusive sense, in different theoretical, geographical and historical contexts. The Journal would like to promote new research perspectives in cultural studies, but it also seeks to map out social and political scholarship that places questions of inequalities and imbalances of power at the heart of academic debate.

  • Open Journal of Social Sciences is an open access, peer-reviewed international journal that deals with both applied and theoretical issues. Special Issues devoted to important topics in social science will occasionally be published. The main objective of JSS is to offer an intellectual platform to the international scholars and it aims to promote interdisciplinary studies in social science.

  • Reserve Bank of India Bulletin provides online access to full text of articles and statistics published in its bulletin from 1997.

  • Reserve Bank of India Occasional Papers provides online access full text of articles in both .pdf and MS-Word .doc format from 1998.

  • SAGE Open is a peer-reviewed, "Gold" open access journal from SAGE that publishes original research and review articles in an interactive, open access format. Articles may span the full spectrum of the social and behavioral sciences and the humanities.

  • Seminar provides online access to full text of articles with effect from 2000.

  • Social Sciences — Open Access Journal is an international, open access journal with rapid peer-review, which publishes works from a wide range of fields, including anthropology, criminology, economics, education, geography, history, law, linguistics, political science, psychology, social policy, social work, sociology and so on. Social Sciences is published monthly online by MDPI.

  • Social Scientist provides online access to full text of articles with effect from 1972. Articles are in the form of images.
